Frequently Asked Questions on how to get State funding for Employee Training

How is the State of Texas able to give us money?
Funding is provided by State of Texas’ Skills Development Fund (SDF, http://www.twc.state.tx.us/partners/skills-development-fund) whose annual budget is approximately $24M. Your company already paid for this training by paying its annual taxes. It is your own money coming back to you!

Why is the State of Texas doing this?
The State wants Texas companies to grow and be competitive. Texas does not want to lose jobs and businesses to other states. When employees improve their skills, companies operate more efficiently and their profits increase helping the State’s economy.

How many employees can we train using SDF funds? What is the maximum amount?
Since Texas employers pay the taxes for each employee, you can train all employees meeting SDF eligibility requirements. There is no limit to the number of employees a company may train, however, the maximum amount per trainee is around $1,800 and the maximum grant amount is $500,000.

But isn’t it really difficult to get an SDF contract and do all the paperwork involved?
Yes it is. Over the years, we too have heard words like “onerous”, “exacting” and others used to describe the SDF program. Therefore, let us be your guide as we steer you through the entire process and help you to successfully get the dollars you keenly need to fund your training.

Yeah, but I am busy now. Can I not look at this later?
Sure you can. But while you delay, every month, SDF is disbursing funds to Texas companies out of its annual budget. If you choose to postpone getting your own SDF contract, you will:

  • – continue paying your annual taxes
  • – pay for your competitors to get training funds and
  • – not getting anything in return.

So, the real question you have to ask yourself is whether you want to receive training funding in return for the taxes you pay year after year.

What types of training does SDF pay for?
SDF funding can be used for a variety of training subjects like Advanced Technology, Lean Manufacturing, Quality improvement, Sales Training, etc. For more details, see: https://www.saisoft.net/training-subjects-reimbursed-by-the-state-of-texas/

How does Saisoft benefit?
Saisoft assists with preparing the application and obtaining the funding. For these services, Saisoft earns a percentage of the total grant value. Best of all, unlike “Business Consultants” you have come across before, we work on contingency basis. You pay us only if you win the grant. Saisoft may also earn revenues for delivering part of the training as the training provider for the local community college. We help you get the training funding and you get to train your employees. We believe in win-win relationships!
